On a mission to pick the perfect avocado?

Choosing the right ‘cado ultimately comes down to when you plan on serving it. A ripe avocado should feel slightly soft, and give slightly under firm gentle pressure without feeling mushy. Look out for large bumps or marks on the skin, as that may be an indication of bruising.

Planning for a party or buying ahead? Try looking for avocados that are firm and bright green in color, and storing at room temperature until they reach the perfect ripeness. Firm, bright avocados usually take 4 to 5 days to become perfect, but the process can be sped up by storing them in a container with a fresh apple or banana! Not ready to eat your ripe avo yet? You can prolong the life of a ripe avocado by a few days by storing it in the fridge until ready for use.

Cut it open!

When you’re ready to eat, slice the avocado slowly down it’s center, lengthwise around the seed. Once a complete cut is made, hold the avocado in the palms of your hand, twisting apart the two halves. Next, remove the seed by gently slipping a spoon underneath. When you’re ready to peel, slice the avocado into 4 quarters and grasp the dark layer of skin, pulling away from the inner green flesh.
